Position Summary

This is the technical leadership role within the manufacturing site. The incumbent will promote / drive the key initiatives of safety, quality and delivery utilizing the various tools and programs available within OMS. Creating and developing a solid process engineering staff is a key responsibility of this manager. This individual must also possess a strong drive for continuous improvement through the application of lean principles and 6-Sigma methodology with a focus on removing waste and cost from the operation. This position has the principal responsibility for defining, implementing and improving the manufacturing and preventative maintenance processes within the plant.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Learn, apply and promote the Vision, Mission and Values of the company.

  • Manage the APQP process within the facility.

  • Constantly strive to improve the process in both effectiveness and timeliness.

  • Lead a technical group that constantly implements continuous improvement activities to drive waste and cost from the manufacturing processes.

  • Research new and advanced processes / equipment to increase safety and productivity.

  • Write and submit CE’s (Capital Expenditures) requests for new equipment. Once approved, leads the implementation of the CE on plan for time and cost.

  • Support a culture of continuous improvement through the application of Lean and 6-Sigma tools / methodologies.

  • Conduct problem solving and documentation through the application of scientific techniques like 6-Sigma.

  • Responsible for the creation, accuracy and upkeep of all BOM’s & Routers for new and existing parts.

  • Write and implement technical work instructions for complex processes / parts.

  • The Engineer will drive key initiatives of safety, quality and delivery by utilizing various tools and program available to promote continuous improvements.

  • Support and / or lead the development of timely cost estimates for new business opportunities.

  • Develop, mentor, coach and evaluate a team of subject matter experts related to the processes in the specific facility.

  • Ensure training needs and requirements for direct reports are met.

  • Maintain and update the plant layout as the future state is implemented.

  • Responsible for providing error-free work to all internal and external customers as related to the output of the position.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must have or be pursuing a Bachelors or Associates degree in business or a technical field. Non-degreed candidates who are not pursuing a degree will be considered if they have 5 or more years of manufacturing engineering experience in a metals-processing environment and exceed the other minimum qualifications and required special skills.

  • 3 or more years of relevant experience as a manager with technical responsibility.

  • Knowledge and understanding of manufacturing process equipment.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Speak, write, and comprehend conversational English.

  • 6-Sigma Green / Black Belt or currently pursuing, and/or 3 or more years' experience in a Lean Systems manufacturing environment.

  • Preferred Office Equipment: operate 10 key desk calculators; familiar with personal computers; Microsoft Office.

  • Must be able to communicate both orally and effectively with various members of the organization.
